September 2018 Newsletter

Posted by Mark on 11 September, 2018

We’re delighted that two animal-focussed employers, Longleat Enterprises, whose businesses include Longleat Safari Park and Cheddar Gorge, and the Jersey-based, Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust have recently signed the Charter for Employers who are Positive About Mental Health.

Sometimes it’s animals who look after the people too: as is the case with long-standing MINDFUL EMPLOYER, Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service with new recruit Digby, the therapy dog for firefighters.

We also welcome Zurich Insurance who employ 5,000 staff here in the UK as a new Charter signatory and the following employers who have also chosen to make this commitment in the last month or so:

For more information about this voluntary and tangible way of providing support to your staff, please visit the Charter pages on our website.

Charter signatories can also access MINDFUL EMPLOYER Plus offering telephone helplines for staff and managers and receive discounts on our on-site mental health awareness workshops and publications. The Charter is available to any employer, any size or sector – but you can also contact us or make use of our training, publications and other support without being a signatory.

  Sharing Good Practice

As well as the media coverage of Digby, the therapy dog, some of our other local Charter signatories have been getting some excellent media coverage for their excellent good practice. Exeter-based BPAQuality have put in place a new staff support group as part of their approach to promoting mental wellbeing which also gained TV coverage. And Optix Solutions, also based in Exeter, have created a blog and a vlog to discuss where they’ve got to with being a Charter signatory and how they’ve implemented more mindful practices in their workplace.

October sees the 14th anniversary of the Launch of MINDFUL EMPLOYER and in next month’s newsletter we’ll be announcing who has kindly agreed to act as a Patron for the initiative.

  MINDFUL EMPLOYER in Switzerland

For the third year running, MINDFUL EMPLOYER is delighted to have been invited to speak at the Annual Disability Matters Europe Conference. Attended by business professionals from across the continent, this year’s event is being held near Zurich in Switzerland from 5-7 November and we’ll be contributing to a special session on mental wellbeing together with award-winning film director, choreographer and mental health advocate Greg Van Borssum.
